Makela McRae

(She, Her, Hers)

Birth Doula | Postpartum Doula

BIO:

Makela McRae has always been drawn to threshold moments: the places where one life is

closing and another is beginning. Birth is one of those places. Parenthood is another. And

postpartum is where the two meet.

Her path to birth work began with caregiving. As a nanny throughout college, Makela learned

that caring for a family is an art of attention. It is knowing when to step forward, when to make

space, and when a quiet presence can say more than a thousand instructions. As an educator of

adult learners, Makela believes that learning should feel less like being told and more like being

awakened. Those early lessons eventually led her to perinatal care, where she discovered a

beautiful intersection between her love of people, education, and transformation.

Makela practices care that is curious before it is assumptive and educational without being

intimidating. She honors the wisdom families bring with them while offering evidence-informed

information to help them make decisions that feel right for their bodies, their babies, and their

lives.

The baby may be the newest person in the room, but they are not the only one being born.

Fun Facts:

Makela’s Favorite 3’s: History, herbalism, tea, storytelling and teaching; Good food, good books, and better

conversation; Dancing, wandering, writing and questions that lead somewhere unexpected.

What to expect:

Expect care that makes room for you to learn yourself.

Makela creates space for questions, reflection, laughter, uncertainty, and becoming. She believes

there is a difference between being cared for and being cared with. She will offer knowledge

without taking away your knowing. She will offer perspective without taking away your power.

And when the moment comes for her to step back, her hope is that you do not simply feel like

you were well cared for. You feel more acquainted with yourself.
