Melissa Schmunk

(She, Her, Hers)

Postpartum Doula

BIO:

Melissa grew up the oldest child in a large family. She earned her Bachelor's degree in History before pursuing a Master's in Public History to become a museum professional with an emphasis in archival work. As a military spouse, she's learned to be adaptable, resourceful, and resilient. Throughout her moves, she's been active with several peer-to-peer support organizations such as La Leche League, the International Cesarean Awareness Network (ICAN), and a breastfeeding support group she created in Colorado that facilitated a safe sharing space online for local parents looking for accurate information and social connections.

After navigating her own struggles as a new mother, Melissa recognized the key need for--and now focuses on--postpartum care. This is particularly important for those whose jobs and other life circumstances take them far distances from trusted family and friends. This understanding blossomed into a desire to assist others through this unique and amazing time of life. She has personal experience with emergency cesarean section, vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC), breastfeeding, babywearing, baby-led weaning, and more. She is the mother of two children, now active teens.
